Chi chi chi le le le vs. USA

Last Saturday we loaded up the car
stopping along the way to pick up
our friend Jen.

For this futbol match,
we were a house divided.
Z donned his USA jersey
& I was loyal to my beloved Chile.

Of course, none of the major players
were present from either team,
but it was still a great match.

17 minutes in, and one of Chile's
coaches is already ejected.

Looks like someone lost a contact.

Chi chi chi le le le! Viva Chile!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

USA answers the Chile goal with a PK.

Pastor(s) USA!

Z made me touch Teal Bunbury
(who scored the US goal).

Jeff Larentowicz chats with fans
& Matt Reis, goalkeeper for
the Revolution.

So the end result was officially a 1-1 draw.
But I maintain that Chile won for 3 reasons:

1. More yellow cards.
2. Coach ejected from the game.
3. Our goal was not from a PK.

Therefore, Chile wins by way of
making the match more interesting.

Viva Chile.

Back in the game

Last week Z and I
went down to LA
for the Galaxy vs. Chivas USA match.

This was kind of a big deal,
first because we love the MLS,
and second because these two teams
share a 'home' stadium, pretty much
making them arch-enemies.

We opted to sit in one of the Galaxy's
supporter sections, but no worries,
I remain forever
Fire Til I Die!

Yep, there's that beautiful Chicago Fire flag.

A kind of creepy inflatable Chivas guy.

Landon Donovan & Becks

It's not Section 8,
but you can't match the
palpable excitement &
absolute sense of community
found in a supporter section.

Happy Z, content Z

Tifo fun

Z waving that blue Galaxy flag...

& his reaction when I called him out
for (being a traitor) cheering on another team.

...

Oh, I don't really blame Z.
He gets really excited sometimes,
especially where Landon Donovan is concerned,
so I know he just couldn't help himself.

me? I had an awesome time, too,
reveling in all the excitement,
but I couldn't bring myself to
specifically cheer for either team.

Familiarity's part of the beauty of the MLS.
Supporter sections use chants & songs
during each match,
but many of the tunes and rhythms
are similar, with words adapted
for each team.

So I just sang along using the Fire lyrics instead.

After the match
we drove just down the street
to Ikea
where we picked up
a few things
to make our house
a little more like home.

All in all,
a beautiful day.

Sneak Peek

Today is a busy day,
so I'm just giving you a little
taste of the
L.A. Galaxy vs. Chivas USA
experience from this weekend.

Plenty more will be up soon!

This post is also included in
Outdoor Wednesday.

Fire vs. Galaxy

After our crazy road trip
from Chicago to Bakersfield,
we put our belongings
into storage,
took two days to find a place to live,
and then got ready to go
back to NC for a couple of weeks.

Before we left CA
we managed to squeeze in
a little MLS game:

Z showing some Chicago Fire love
at the Home Depot Center.

Posing with his fav Galaxy/US player,
Landon Donovan

Hmm...is this a sign for water fountains
or vomiting?

Here we go...

Rowdy fans in one of the Galaxy's
supporter sections.
(makes me miss Section 8)

Fire til we die!

Dad's first MLS match!

My mother cheerleading

Our Fire dominated, which,
although extremely surprising,
was awesome to witness.

Go Fire!

Fire Fire Fire!

This weekend was the Chicago Fire home opener.
We headed over to Toyota Park with
some friends. It was a beautiful night
and lots of fun, but unfortunately
our Fire lost 2-1.
